Turkish DPA Introduces Mandatory Verification of E-mail/Telephone Information
The principle decision of the Personal Data Protection Board (“Board”) dated 22.12.2020 and numbered 2020/966 (“Decision”), published in the Official Gazette dated 15.01.2021, drew attention to the technical and administrative measures that need to be implemented by data controllers, particularly with respect to those who operate in sectors such as e-commerce, telecommunication, transportation, and tourism, before sending documents that contain personal data, such as invoices, account statements, reservation documents, etc., to data subjects. In accordance with the Decision, data controllers must verify the e-mail and telephone information shared with them before sending any documentation containing personal data.
