The Effects of COVID-19 on the Labor Law Principles and Practices

In light of the fact that COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus, was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on 11 March 2020, and as the number of cases continues to increase in Turkey, many employers are forced to make individual evaluations in relation to labor law related issues.

As the applicable legislation lacks a “force majeure” provision for events that prevent the performance of obligations and/or render it impossible, and since the issue is rather new, many employers are hesitant when deciding what actions to take to help alleviate the effects of the COVID-10 pandemic.
