Corporate M&A: Law & Practice
1.1 M&A Market
2015 was a year of caution for Turkey, as the country went through parliamentary elections and the humanitarian crisis continued in neighbouring Syria. The Turkish economy nevertheless withstood these strains and the Turkish M&A market still recorded notable deals being closed in 2015.
The number of deals closed in 2015 was about the same as in 2014, whereas a decrease was observed in terms of aggregate transaction value compared to 2014 figures. This is attributable to a sharp decline in privatisation activity, as privatisation tenders were postponed until after the political uncertainties associated with June and November 2015 elections. The share of foreign investors in total M&A deal value increased compared to 2014. Interest in small and medium-sized enterprises remained intact in 2015.
